Customize your Windows 8 Lock Screen : YouTube Video

If you’ve read my earlier post on Windows 8 Hidden features, you should be looking for more customization of Windows 8. Things are a little different from Windows 7 in Windows 8. Tiles have become the pseudo standard of Windows 8 replacing the icon style of Windows 7, Vista and XP.

Windows 8 Lock Screen Customization

Lock screen is the first screen you’re going to look at when you log into your computer. This will also be the same screen when you turn away from your computer or lock your computer in Windows 8. Some new features like date and time, Network and App notifications etc are added to the Lock Screen.

Microsoft has amply provided customization to change the background of the Lock screen. To change the background of the Lock screen, you can choose from 6 pre-defined images or you can personalize with your own picture or image from your hard disk.

Step 1: Press Windows Key + C to bring up the charms bar.

Step 2: Press Windows Key + I to open the settings pane for desktop and start screen respectively.

Step 3: Click on “More PC Settings” which is visible at the bottom of the Settings Pane.

This will bring up the Metro Style PC Settings control panel. The “Personalize” menu should be selected by default (otherwise, click on the left) and also the “Lock Screen” should be selected on the right hand side.(otherwise, click on it ).

If you want to use any of the pre-defined images as the Lock Screen, just click any of the 6 thumbnail images below “Change your picture”. Otherwise, if you want more customization you can click the “Browse button and select your own picture.

There is also another option called “Lock Screen apps below the thumbnails. Using this option, you can choose which apps to run in the background and show quick status and notifications, even when your screen is locked.

Otherwise, you can choose an app to show a detailed status.
